How to implement clean energy in local schools

I am part of a community board trying to figure out how to transition our local elementary schools to renewable energy sources like solar power. The main issue is that the initial setup costs are massive, and we do not have enough funding from the government. Does anyone know of any private foundations or tech-focused organizations that help with green energy for education? What are the first steps to take when looking for a partner who values both innovation and the environment?
