Traditional drinks to serve with caviar

I am planning a formal dinner and I want to follow the traditional rules for serving sturgeon roe. I have heard that vodka is the classic choice but I am not sure which type to get. Does the drink really change the way the caviar tastes? Are there any other spirits that work well or should I stick to the basics?
